Much time and money can be wasted using real 'online' plant equipment to figure out new manufacturing processes for new product development. Hence the need for a machine which can develop new materials, products or manufacturing processes off line. This leads to a highly modular type design since the actual end use is never really known - it must be as 'open' as possible. Felxibility is the key. A combination of engineering principles and CAD skills were require to complete, including part design, assembly design, 2D detailing, CNC parts, mechanisms, electromechanical, jigs & fixtures and of course machine design!
