FEA Case Study: Postprocessing
The results are in - now analysis and part design evaluation can begin - postprocessing
Postprocessing is the display and analysis of the results given by the solve. Careful analysis is now required so that the maximum amount of information can be gained and fed back in to the part or assembly design leading to a superior quality product which is cost and mechanically optimised. Depending on the reason for performing the FEA, there are many aspects which need to be looked at and ultimately the results are a compromise of the how the FEA was set-up in preprocessing. Therefore the results are relative and must be interpreted correctly. Here, there is no real substitute for experience, especially where the FEA has been performed to learn more about the mechanical or physical properties of the component/assembly whilst in use, hence stepping in to the unknown.
